Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a mental health condition that involves persistent, unwanted thoughts, images, or urges (obsessions) and repetitive behaviours or mental rituals (compulsions) that can be used to reduce anxiety or distress.
OCD can take many forms, including fears of contamination, concerns about harm or safety, intrusive thoughts, excessive checking, counting, reassurance-seeking, or a strong need for things to feel “just right.” Some people experience primarily mental compulsions that may not be visible to others.
Living with OCD can be exhausting and may affect relationships, work, school, sleep, and everyday activities. It can also bring feelings of shame, guilt, or confusion, particularly when intrusive thoughts feel unwanted or inconsistent with your values.
We provide compassionate, individualized support to help you better understand OCD and develop healthier ways of responding to intrusive thoughts, anxiety, and uncertainty. Depending on your needs and goals, therapy may incorporate Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), mindfulness, and other therapeutic approaches.
With appropriate support and treatment, it is possible to reduce the impact of OCD and develop greater confidence in responding to distress.
